Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram continued to shine on day two of the National Age Groups Swimming Tournament in HCM City yesterday after winning five more gold medals and breaking a national record.

In the girls 14-15’s 200m freestyle, Tram of HCM City clocked a time of 2:06.88 to win gold and break the record of 2:07.64 set by Vietnam’s top female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in 2011.
Earlier, the 15-year-old swimmer also broke Vien’s national record in the 200m individual medley in a time of 2:21.93.
In the 200m backstroke yesterday, Vien triumphed with a time of 2:21.71. She also took gold in the 50m butterfly with a time of 29.02sec.
Vien’s two remaining gold medals were in the 4 x 100m medley relay and 4 x 100m freestyle relay.
Six other national records were broken yesterday. Le Hoang Minh An set a new record in the boys aged 13 and under’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:10.76, beating the old record of 1:11.76.
On Thursday, An also set a record in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 32.77s.
After two days of competition, HCM City lead with 23 golds, 13 silvers and 16 bronzes. Quang Binh finished second with 10 golds, five silvers and one bronze, while Long An replaced National Defence Sports Centre 5 to come to third with six golds, eight silvers and four bronzes.
The event concludes on Sunday.
