AI and blockchain are leading to changes in the structure of many industries. The technologies will create new jobs, but will also pose new challenges, according to Le Linh Luong, deputy head of the Academy of Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence Innovation (ABAII).

Luong, at a workshop on improving young laborers’ capability held recently by the Vietnam Blockchain Association, cited a report showing that AI use has doubled over the last six months. More and more people are using AI at work.

“AI has complemented and supported potential rather than eliminated a particular job. This opens up opportunities for those who can use AI, especially in the fields of sales, marketing, logistics, and supply chain management,” he said.

According to McKinsey and PwC, AI can help reduce logistics costs by 15-25 percent through the optimization of transport journeys, and increase accuracy in demand prediction and inventory management by 30-40 percent.

AI also cuts 20-35 percent of time to handle orders thanks to automation, improves the performance of storehouses by 50-60 percent, and reduces the interruption time of supply chains by 25-30 percent, thanks to prediction and real-time data analysis.

Blockchain has also shown its great impact on the operation of supply chains.

With the typical characteristics of decentralization, constancy and consensus, blockchain is expected to help solve problems in security and transparency, and cut transaction costs.

In such circumstances, Luong says that if candidates’ curriculum vitae show they studied, experienced or participated in projects related to the new technologies, their profile will be more appreciated than others.

Le Hong Van, an expert with 25 years of experience in supply chain administration, said warehouse operators, data entry clerks, warehouse accountants, and transportation coordinators bear the biggest impact from AI and new technologies.

New technologies can create new job opportunities. Young workers can take new jobs based on blockchain and AI use in the operation of supply chains.

“Supply Chain Automation Specialist, for example, is a new job which requires coding skills. Supply Chain Consultant is the job for those who master blockchain and AI as well as applications to give advice to enterprises,” Van said.

Nguyen Minh Cuong from ABAII said that with development knowledge and AI skills, workers can exploit up to 90 percent of machine capability.
