Meanwhile, Google Assistant in Vietnamese has become popular in Vietnam, which has put pressure on the firm’s chatbot project.

VinID, a subsidiary of Vingroup, with the mission of developing an AI and Vingroup ecosystem, is an attractive destination for technology talents. The market currently has a serious shortage of technology personnel like Vietnam.

The technology community several days ago was stirred up by the rumor that most of the development team of a large Vietnamese technology firm had left for another company, causing many key projects of the firm to be delayed.

A report from Talentnet made in cooperation with Mercer showed that in the last three years, the software industry has been leading in terms of wage increases with the average increase of 10 percent.

A recent report of TopDev showed that Vietnam needs 400,000 workers in the coding sector, while only 200,000 can satisfy the requirements of jobs.

Vietnam has emerged as the choice of many countries in the world, because the labor cost in China and India have become increasingly high. The companies with good labor force in AI and machine learning are at high risk of losing staff because of a serious shortage of workers in the field.

Workers in the hi-tech sector now change jobs regularly. Developers are willing to quit jobs if they find new opportunities (59.8 percent), a report found.

“The market demand is high, while developers understand their value. Retaining workers is really a heady issue for technology firms,” said Nguyen Huu Binh, CEO of TopDev.

The personnel shortage for a long time has caused serious consequences to Vietnam’s technologies. Meanwhile, no solution has been found.

High wages not enough to attract talent

Huynh Lam Ho, co-founder and CEO of Haravan, which provides e-commerce solutions, also complained about the ‘brain drain’ as the company’s experienced workers have left for Singaporean firms.

“In order to be able to recruit good developers, in addition to attractive wages, the company has to show where it will be in 5-10 years so as to motivate them,” he said.

Binh of TopDev commented that a high wage is not enough to attract talents. “The firms’ long-term vision is mentioned the most in branding programs for employers,” he said.
