A parent told VietNamNet that he heard the information from another parent who posted the news on her personal page. He immediately called other parents.

“We feared that the matter would affect children’s psychology. We don’t know if anything happened during the teaching process,” he said.

“We wanted the police to investigate this case to find out if there are any photos or images,” he said.

He said that when parents discovered the problem, the school terminated the labor contract with the teacher.

“We raised our voice so that schools will become more cautious in considering candidates’ background when recruiting foreign teachers,” he said.

Deputy director of the Da Nang Education and Training Department Mai Tan LInh on March 16 told VietNamNet that the school has reported the case to the department.

According to Linh, in 2013, the man was arrested by police in the US when he was discovered storing images of children.

However, US police, after the investigation, came to the conclusion that he did not show any behavior of abusing children, and had only stored sensitive images.

In 2017, the international school signed a contract with the man to work as a teacher. In his curriculum vitae, the man did not mention the arrest in the US.

“The problem is that he did not report to us about this. The Singapore International School has terminated the contract with him. The teacher was loved and esteemed by students and did not commit any violations,” the official said.

Some parents said they received a letter from the school dated March 15, saying that the school was sorry about the case.

The letter said the school received information about the man on March 7 and had a meeting with him the next morning. He was dismissed as he had not made an honest declaration.

The school affirmed that recruitment is implemented in accordance with strict procedures. Candidates are required to fill in a form answering questions about personal information and legal status. The man declared that he did not have a criminal record.

Teachers have to satisfy requirements on experience, qualifications and working permits, and provide legal records that national security agencies or judicial centers certify on personal information and the legal status of candidates.

All the foreign teachers of the school were certified as having no criminal records.

In July 2014, abc7news reported that a man, aged 45, was taken into custody when flying from Vietnam to San Jose for owning pornographic images.
