VietNamNet Bridge – The ancient fig tree in Phu Khong, inside the Trang An scenic spot in Ninh Binh province, is the most special fig tree in Vietnam as it produces fruits in two shapes, round and flat.
The 1,000 year-old fig tree is located in Phu Khong, where seven mandarins killed themselves with poisonous alcohol to protect secrets about the true grave of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang. According to legend, the seven loyal mandarins of the Dinh dynasty died together under an ancient fig tree. This tree died and a young tree (the current 1,000-year-old tree) grew up from the foot of the tree. Under the foot of the fig tree is a temple. The tree attracts many visitors. The tree is famous because it yields fruits in two different shapes – round and flat. No one can explain why it can produce different fruits like this. It is now the most special fig tree in Vietnam. |
