VietNamNet Bridge – The Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications on November 1 announced the results of its actual test of 3G speed in Vietnam.

One month ago, the media released different information on the quality of mobile services in Vietnam, especially data loading speed. For example, a social networking site said that the 3G data download speed in Vietnam is about 1.5MB/second, even lower than that of Laos.

Meanwhile, according to a survey by Akamai, the average speed of 3G in Vietnam is about 2,8Mb/second.

In this situation, the Department of Telecom measured the actual data download speeds of 3G networks in Vietnam, specifically VNPT, MobiFone, Viettel and Vietnamobile.

The agency carried out measurements in Hanoi, Bac Ninh in the north, Danang and Quang Nam in the central region, and Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong in the south.

The measurement was conducted at different times, performed in different conditions outdoors – at a fixed place and mobile measurement and indoor measurements. The number of measurements was 5,400 for each network.

According to the survey, the average download speed of 3G networks n Vietnam is 7,8Mb/s and the average upload speed is 1,4Mb/seconds, three times higher than the result of Akamai and many times higher than the data released by a social networking site.

On the other hand, the agency noted that, if excluding Vietnamobile, which has a low 3G speed, the average speed of 3G download speed of VNPT, Viettel and MobiFone is over 9MB/second.

These results will be posted on the official website of the Department of Telecommunications.
