Love between “the short man” and the beautiful girl

For more than a year, Nguyen The Cong, from Phu Tho, has lived a brighter, more colorful life after falling in love with Hoang Thi Ha Chuyen, a girl from Bac Giang (now Bac Ninh Province).

Their love story became widely known after a wedding photo video went viral on social media.

The couple’s wedding photo video attracted hundreds of thousands of views online.

Born with a congenital condition, Cong stopped growing at 1m40. At 21, his youthful face and small stature made life difficult.

As a child, he couldn’t keep up with other kids in physical activities and often played alone.

Those solitary years left him with many unspoken feelings.

As he grew older, Cong became determined to live independently.

He was confident at work and in social interactions  -  but when it came to love, he carried deep insecurities.

“Whatever I worried about, my mother worried ten times more,” Cong said softly. “She was afraid I’d never find a wife and would grow old alone.”

Then he met Ha Chuyen  -  a girl with a radiant smile  -  and all those fears began to fade.

Her sincerity and warmth convinced him that everyone, no matter their circumstance, could find the person meant for them.

They first connected online in early 2024, when Cong was working in Bac Giang (now Bac Ninh).

Drawn by her joyful photos, he messaged her just to make a new friend  -  never daring to hope for love.

But after a few conversations, something changed.

Chuyen was gentle and understanding. When Cong shared his condition, she didn’t flinch or judge.

“It wasn’t about looks,” she said. “I cared about who he was  -  his kindness and the way he treated people.”

“His patience and the way he listened made me feel safe,” she added.

They decided to date even before meeting in person.

Three months later, they finally met for the first time.

That day, Cong took a bus to see her. When he spotted her at a café, he froze for a moment.

“She was even prettier in person,” he recalled. “The way she spoke so gently  -  it made me fall for her all over again.”

Chuyen, too, wasn’t surprised by his appearance.

Instead, she felt an unexpected sense of familiarity and comfort.

When he held her hand for the first time and spoke about their future, she couldn’t hold back tears.

For nearly a year, they kept their relationship private.

Every weekend, Cong took the bus to visit her, and they met in secret spots far from her family’s home.

“The thing I feared most was my parents’ reaction,” Chuyen said. “But as for loving him, I never had any doubts.”

A heartfelt first meeting with her family

In August 2025, confident in their love, Cong decided to meet Chuyen’s parents.

He knew it would be the biggest challenge yet  -  one he had to face to earn her hand in marriage.

He arrived neatly dressed and was warmly welcomed.

“To my surprise, her parents were so kind,” he said. “They didn’t keep their distance or act hesitant. They treated me with genuine respect.”

When the evening ended, her father even said, “It’s late  -  why don’t you stay overnight and go home tomorrow?”

But out of politeness, Cong declined.

What he didn’t know was that his visit marked the beginning of Chuyen’s toughest days.

Her parents, worried for her future, gently urged her to reconsider.

Relatives whispered doubts: “You’re so pretty and tall  -  why would you love someone so short? What kind of future will that be?”

Chuyen admitted it was painful to hear, but she stood firm.

“I told him all I cared about was convincing my parents,” she said. “And he did it  -  through his maturity and genuine care.”

After earning her family’s acceptance, Cong proudly brought Chuyen to meet his mother.

That day, his mother was so happy she cooked two trays of food and invited relatives to celebrate.

“When they met her, everyone smiled,” Cong said. “My mom even teased, ‘How did you win over such a beautiful girl?’”

When she learned that Chuyen’s parents had agreed, his mother finally breathed a sigh of relief.

After nearly two years of love and persistence, the couple held their engagement ceremony on December 4, 2025, and will celebrate their wedding on January 7–8, 2026.

During their pre-wedding photoshoot, Cong stood proudly beside his fiancée  -  on a 25-centimeter stool to match her height  -  grinning from ear to ear.

“I may be short,” he said, “but my happiness is standing tall.”
