Hoang Huong (from Tien Giang, now Dong Thap) has a chubby, lovely appearance. However, her weight was once an obstacle in her journey to find true love. Born in 2001, she had experienced two relationships that ended painfully. She felt the negative judgment about her appearance and became discouraged.
“For many years, I no longer had hope in love,” Huong said.
Everything changed when she met Loc Tho (born 1994, from Dong Thap), a man seven years older with whom she felt an instant emotional connection. Like two matching puzzle pieces, they quickly grew close and sincere with each other.
Huong and Tho met through a family introduction in early 2025. What Huong did not know was that Tho had once seen her on the street and was impressed by the girl. In their first messages, Huong was still quite hesitant.
Not long after, they met in person. Huong was surprised that the man who seemed introverted was actually humorous and lively. They talked for a long time, and Tho shared everything from family to work. When he took her home, he gently said, “When I’m with you, I feel like a completely different person.”
Huong realized she had feelings for him because she saw sincerity in his eyes, not the judgment she had experienced before.
Still, because of her appearance, that night she texted him: “Seeing me in person, were you disappointed?” Tho replied immediately: “No! I think you’re very cute.”
A week later, they officially started dating. During her first visit to his family, Huong was warmly welcomed. But just a month later, their love faced strong opposition from his mother.
“She said our ages didn’t match, but I knew the real reason was probably my size. At first, his family didn’t mind, but after hearing people gossip, they no longer had a good impression.
“Because of this, Tho and his mother barely spoke for a while. I felt so sorry for him that I even thought of letting go,” Huong shared.
Huong cried many times, and each time Tho comforted her. When she insisted on breaking up, Tho was so scared that he broke into tears. Looking into her eyes, he said firmly: “Please trust me. After the rain, the sky will clear. Our love will definitely have a beautiful ending.”
A perfect wedding
And that beautiful ending finally came. Tho’s mother, realizing how deeply her son was in love, decided to support the couple.
“After nine months and nine days together, both families fully supported us. I’ll never forget the day Tho’s mother asked to talk to me. She held my hand and said, ‘We have only one son. Now that we have you too, I will love you like my own daughter,’” Huong recalled.
She kept her promise. She patiently accompanied her future daughter-in-law to try on gowns, and even ordered a custom wedding dress just for her.
She also bought Huong a pair of high heels so she could feel confident on her big day.
“My body makes it hard to sit in a regular 4-seat wedding car. Seeing that, my mother-in-law rented a convertible so I could be comfortable. She even personally altered my traditional dress so I would look more graceful.
“She decorated our wedding room herself, changed the bedsheets and pillows, and prepared the wedding gifts thoughtfully to show respect for my family. I am truly grateful for everything she has done,” Huong said.
Thanks to her mother-in-law’s deep care, Huong confidently walked with her groom into the wedding hall in a gorgeous custom dress and perfectly fitting heels.
During the ceremony, she was moved to hear her mother-in-law say: “From now on, you are my daughter. If anything troubles you, talk to me, don’t keep it inside.”
Loc Tho also teared up as he told his wife: “Thank you for going through so many challenges with me so we could have this beautiful ending. Thank you for agreeing to be my wife.”
When they sang “Ta la cua nhau” together, a song Tho spent days practicing just to make her happy, the couple felt their love even more deeply.
