A corner of Nhi Hoa Hamlet, Nhi Long Commune, aims to attract visitors looking to “slow down.”

Nhi Long Commune, formed by the merger of three former communes, spans over 57.9 square kilometers and is home to more than 34,000 people. This fertile land boasts a rich history of patriotism and revolutionary tradition.

Thanks to its favorable geographic location, Nhi Long has been identified as a promising area for tourism development, particularly in agriculture, riverside landscapes, and cultural heritage.

The rural tourism model in Nhi Hoa Hamlet is built on a community-based approach, placing residents at the center. It leverages the commune’s inherent cultural and natural assets, combining tourism with everyday livelihoods and local customs. The model aims to preserve traditional values while maintaining the rural lifestyle and environment.

Each household in the hamlet contributes a unique experience, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into their daily routines and ways of life.

The village gate welcoming tourists is crafted from coconut trunks aged 20 to 30 years, creating a rustic and intimate first impression. Within the village, traditional houses reflect a simple and timeless charm, embodying a peaceful and unhurried pace of life.

Locals greet visitors with authenticity and simplicity.

Visitors can engage in hands-on activities such as gardening, collecting eggs, and playing folk games like blindfolded duck catching. They can immerse themselves in the serene riverine environment and explore the region’s unique ecosystem - lush with betel palms, coconut trees, and grapefruit orchards.

In Nhi Hoa, residents don’t "perform" for tourists. Instead, they live just as they always have. Tourism here serves simply as a bridge, allowing these genuine moments to be naturally shared.

Dr. Duong Duc Minh, Deputy Director of the Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research in Ho Chi Minh City, remarked that the tourism model in Nhi Hoa is guided by the principles of green growth and sustainable development.

“Community-based tourism in Nhi Hoa is expected to unlock the potential of agricultural tourism rooted in local life. It aims to create sustainable livelihoods while also promoting Vinh Long's image during its new phase of development,” Minh said.

Speaking at the launch event, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long Province, emphasized that the model has been systematically and thoughtfully developed. It not only diversifies the province’s tourism offerings but also provides stable income opportunities for local residents.

In the coming period, the department will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to improve infrastructure, enhance the quality of tourism products and services, and ensure the model’s long-term effectiveness.

The implementation of the Nhi Hoa community-based tourism model is expected to professionalize local tourism activities, gradually infusing new vitality into the region's cultural heritage. It aims to highlight and spread the unique lifestyle and values of the Mekong Delta.
