At 1:45pm on July 26, the hearse carrying General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong slowly departed from the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. Many people lined the streets to bid farewell as the procession passed by.
Reports from VietNamNet indicate that people in various provinces and cities across the country followed the funeral through television and other media, expressing their deep emotions and sorrow at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In Can Tho City, residents watched the funeral, memorial, and burial ceremonies on television.
Mr. Tran Hieu, a retired soldier and presenter at the Can Tho City Retirees' Club, said: "Since hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, I have been devastated, feeling as if I have lost a family member. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was dedicated to the Party and the people. His passing is a great loss for our Party, State, and people."
In the afternoon of July 26, at the Hall of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Military Command, hundreds of officers and soldiers watched the funeral and burial ceremonies on television.
Colonel Hoang Van Nhan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Military Command, expressed that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing was deeply mourned by the entire Party, military, and people. The officers and soldiers of the Thua Thien-Hue armed forces will always remember and honor his significant contributions to the revolutionary cause, especially in the country's renovation, construction, and defense.
"To honor the General Secretary, the officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces pledge to thoroughly implement his 'seven dare' directive, continuously promote solidarity, proactively overcome difficulties, and be ready to fulfill all tasks assigned by the Party, State, military, and people," said Colonel Hoang Van Nhan.
At 1pm, hundreds of students at Hong Duc University, Thanh Hoa Province gathered in dark clothing to solemnly watch the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong broadcast live on television.
Le Anh Nguyet, a student in the K24 Auditing class, shared: "Since hearing about his passing, I have been deeply moved. Every time I hear stories or watch films about his ethical example, I cannot hold back my tears. Today, as he goes to his eternal rest, I bid him farewell. We will always strive to follow his teachings and build a better country."
In Phu Tho, Mr. Vu Dinh Khuyen (85, in Thuy Van, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province) expressed his deep sorrow while watching the national funeral on television.
Khuyen shared with VietNamNet that he had spent three years living and studying with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Political Economy Faculty, Class 3, Nguyen Ai Quoc Advanced School (1973-1976), now the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.
"At that time, Mr. Trong was the youngest in our research class, only 29 years old. Our dorm room had four people who lived and studied together like brothers. Trong was very simple, sincere, and particularly intelligent. The last time we met was nearly 30 years ago," Khuyen emotionally recalled his youthful memories with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In Lai Chau province, Nguyen Duy Cuong, Deputy Secretary of Tam Duong District Youth Union, expressed: "The youth of Tam Duong District express their boundless grief at bidding farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. In Dien Bien Province, in the tri-border area of Sin Thau Commune, Muong Nhe District, the Ha Nhi people have expressed their sorrow over the past days at the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Mrs. Po My Le, Party Secretary of Sin Thau Commune, said: "Although we have not met him in person, the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong are well known to the people of Sin Thau. We are grateful to the Party, the State, and the General Secretary for improving our lives."
In Lao Cai province, people from various ethnic groups in the province turned their thoughts to Hanoi, where the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong took place.
All agencies, units, and localities in Lao Cai expressed their deep sorrow and profound gratitude for the great contributions and exceptional leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
At the top of Fansipan, known as the "Roof of Indochina," the flag at half-mast ceremony and a moment of silence were conducted in a solemn atmosphere.
On the highest flagpole in the country, the image of the flag at half-mast served as a profound farewell and tribute to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who devoted his entire life to the revolutionary cause and the happiness of the people.
In Ha Giang province, many people were moved to tears while watching the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on television. At offices and agencies, staff arrived earlier than usual.
At the Lung Cu Border Guard Station (Dong Van District), a flag-raising ceremony was held at the Lung Cu National Flagpole. The 54-square-meter national flag, symbolizing the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam, bore a mourning ribbon and was flown at half-mast for two days, July 25-26, in memory of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Nguyen Khac Vu, a war veteran living in Tran Phu Ward, Ha Giang City, shared his sorrow and emotion while watching the live broadcast of the state funeral.
He said: "Although I have never met the General Secretary, my family and I feel deeply saddened and lost. His passing is a tremendous loss for our Party, State, and nation."
