The information was given on March 27 by Tran Xuan Phuoc, director of the Dak Lak Centre for Elephant Conservation, Animal Rescue and Forest Protection Management.

The elephant has died from illness and exhaustion

According to Phuoc, the tamed elephant H'Plul which is from the Ban Don-Anh Duong Eco-tourist Site died on March 2. The autopsy result showed that the elephant's body saw no signs of being attacked. However, it faced dental and digestive problems.

The Ban Don-Anh Duong Eco-tourist Site said that the animal has been in bad health over recent years despite great care efforts.

Local authorities and the Ban Don-Anh Duong Eco-tourist Site jointly held a burial ceremony for the elephant.

On February 9, a 30-year-old male elephant in Dak Lak also died from an illness.

Dak Lak is now home to 36 domesticated elephants. In November last year, the Animals Asia Foundation funded VND55 billion to support local elephant owners and elephant preservation centres in order to stop tourism services using elephants. The project will last until 2026.
