Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 27, just over a month after the launch of iOS 27, bringing a range of new features alongside extensive security fixes.
Among the vulnerabilities addressed is an Apple Intelligence flaw that could allow remote attackers to access sensitive data. Another issue affecting Hide My Email could potentially expose users' real email addresses.
The update also fixes more than 30 vulnerabilities in WebKit, Apple's web browser engine, and approximately 15 flaws in the operating system's kernel.
Six of the vulnerabilities, identified by their Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) numbers, were discovered by Calif, a security company that previously succeeded in jailbreaking the iPhone Duo on its launch day.
Stefan Esser, a security researcher at Calif, recently said that most of the vulnerabilities the company had exploited to jailbreak the device have now been patched in iOS 27.2.
Apple has not disclosed whether any of the vulnerabilities have been exploited in real-world attacks. However, with details of some flaws already publicly available, devices that have not been updated could become potential targets.
The number of vulnerabilities identified in iOS updates continues to rise as artificial intelligence tools become increasingly capable of detecting security weaknesses.
AI companies have also contributed to the latest round of fixes, with Anthropic credited for three patches and OpenAI for four.
For devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 27, Apple has also released iOS 26.7.2, which includes many of the same security fixes.
New features in iOS 27.2
Beyond the security improvements, iOS 27.2 introduces additional language support for AI-powered Siri, enhancements to FaceTime and updates to Apple Music.
However, advanced AI features are available only on devices compatible with Apple Intelligence, such as the iPhone 18 Pro.
With iOS 27.2, Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple has also announced plans to add Vietnamese by the end of the year. The AI-powered assistant initially supported only English.
FaceTime users can now activate both the front and rear cameras simultaneously during a video call, provided both participants are running iOS 27 or later.
Apple Music and Apple Podcasts have received redesigned interfaces, while the Apple TV app now supports individual user profiles.
To check for the update, iPhone users can go to Settings > General > Software Update.
