Nearly five years after losing his wife, a 73-year-old man in southern Vietnam has found a new companion for his later years, with his children and grandchildren wholeheartedly supporting his second chance at happiness.
A video capturing the gray-haired groom smiling as he welcomed his bride from the wedding car at a ceremony in Tay Ninh province has drawn 2.1 million views and 69,000 likes on TikTok. It was posted with a simple caption: “Celebrating the day Grandpa gets married.”
The video was shared by My Nhung, born in 2003 and from Long Cang commune in Tay Ninh. The groom attracting attention online is her 73-year-old grandfather, Tu Ngo.

Nhung said her grandfather has three sons, all of whom are married and live in their own homes. Nearly five years ago, her grandmother died, leaving him to live alone in a small house. Everyone in the family hoped he would eventually meet someone with whom he could share his later years.
“Not long ago, Grandpa told the family he had been getting to know a 49-year-old woman who lives not far from his hometown. Friends introduced them, and they found they got along well, so he wanted to bring her home and live together.
“When we saw that Grandpa had found happiness again, everyone in the family was delighted and supported him,” Nhung said.
Tu Ngo and his bride, who is 24 years younger, held their wedding on Aug. 23. She arrived in a wedding car, accompanied to the groom’s home by siblings, children and grandchildren. Tu Ngo waited at home and greeted his bride as the car arrived before accompanying her into the wedding venue for the ceremony.

Nhung’s family prepared 23 banquet tables and invited relatives and close friends to celebrate with the couple. In a particularly heartfelt gesture, the family accepted only their guests’ good wishes and declined cash wedding gifts, saying they simply wanted their father and grandfather to enjoy a complete and joyful day surrounded by those closest to him.
During the ceremony, Tu Ngo and his wife happily exchanged wedding rings before blowing out the candles on a two-tier cake. Relatives from both families celebrated the couple, happy that they had found each other later in life.
“Throughout the wedding day, I saw Grandpa smiling so much. I’m very happy knowing that from now on, he has someone beside him to share his days and nights,” Nhung said. “I believe that no matter how old we are, we all deserve happiness.”
