At approximately 3:30 p.m. on November 9, local residents discovered a body washed ashore near the Mo Thay area in Dong Hai Village, Long Hai Commune. Authorities were promptly notified of the incident.

The victim was later identified as Jiang Xiquan, 50, a Chinese national.

He had entered Vietnam via Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on October 10. He then traveled to Phu Quy Island and checked into the Chill Chill Hotel in Quy Hai Village, Long Hai Commune, where he planned to stay until early December.

Preliminary findings indicate that around 1 p.m. on the day of the incident, Mr. Jiang went to swim alone, bringing along a spear for spearfishing at Mo Thay Beach. He later encountered difficulties in the water and passed away.

According to hotel staff, Jiang Xiquan frequently went swimming and spearfishing alone since his arrival.

The victim’s body is currently being held at the Phu Quy District Medical Center, where an autopsy will be conducted before the body is released to his family as per standard procedure.
