According to the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, a patrol team discovered the whale at around 5:50am on May 26 near Hon Mun, located in Nha Trang Bay.

Footage recorded at the scene showed the whale repeatedly surfacing and moving slowly through the water while numerous seabirds flew overhead. It was the first Bryde’s whale recorded in Nha Trang Bay this year.

Officials said the whale’s return is a positive sign for the marine environment, reflecting improvements in food supply and the ecological quality of the bay’s waters.

The management board advised residents, tourists and vessels to maintain a minimum distance of 100m from the animal and avoid chasing, blocking its path or separating a mother whale from its calf.

Tour boats were also asked not to gather around areas where whales appear, while operators were urged to reduce speed, minimize noise and switch off engines when stopping to observe the animals.

Authorities additionally warned against flying drones at low altitude, saying the noise could interfere with whales’ navigation and communication abilities.

The Nha Trang Bay Management Board called on the public to raise awareness about protecting marine wildlife and to notify authorities whenever whales or rare marine species are spotted.

In recent years, whales have appeared more frequently in Nha Trang Bay. Most recently, a Bryde’s whale was recorded near Hon Mun in July 2025, further signaling positive changes in the marine ecosystem.
