Several Nokia 6 smartphones arrived in Hanoi on February 8. Most of the shops said they didn’t have many products to sell. The shop owners said they still needed to explore the situation and learn more about demand before deciding how many products to import.
Meanwhile, Phuoc Sang Shop in Dong Da district, Hanoi, said it only had several products for customers to sample, estimating that the retail price would be VND7.5 million.
Nokia 6 has been long awaited in Vietnam because it the first smartphone model made under HMD Global, a new company in Finland with key personnel from Nokia. |
The model is now officially available only on JD.com in China. Vietnamese are hunting for because they heard Nokia 6s are selling well in China.
Nokia 6 is priced at $247, or VND5.5 million. It reportedly has had 1 million orders and it ran out just after one minute of sale on January 19.
However, Nokia 6 has received more criticism than compliments after one week in Vietnam. The products are carried to Vietnam across border gates.
Nokia 6 has monolithic metal clad but many phones have this now. Samsung, HTC and even Xiaomi have used different materials for clad – glass combined with metal, or ceramic – to make products more brilliant. Apple has Jet Black color for its iPhone 7.
Vietnamese smartphone users also think Nokia 6 doesn’t have reasonable selling prices. While the product has strong configuration with 5.5 inch Full HD, RAM 4GB, ROM 64GB and 16MP/8MP camera, it only uses mid-class Snapdragon 430.
The product has the quoted price of VND8-9 million, though it was initially thought to be valued at VND7-7.5 million.
With the same configuration, Oppo F1s 2017 is sold at VND6.99 million. Some people commented that with the same amount of money, they would rather buy Asus or Samsung products than Nokia 6.
Some analysts say Nokia 6 is criticized unfairly. The manufacturer, targeting middle-class income earners, set the selling price of $250 only, or VND5.5 million in China. With the price, Nokia 6 is able to compete with other models of the same market segment.
However, they think Nokia needs a flagship with big changes in design and features, in order to regain Nokia fame and polish its image upon its return to the market.
