On June 11, the automated baggage drop system was officially launched at Terminal T2 of Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang. This system, known as self-bag drop, is designed to streamline the check-in process and is currently available to passengers of Starlux Airlines, the first airline to adopt this technology at the airport.

According to a VietNamNet reporter’s observation, the self-bag drop counters at Terminal T2 facilitate a swift and user-friendly check-in experience. Passengers interact with a touch screen that displays clear, bilingual instructions, ensuring ease of use. Additionally, staff members are available to assist passengers as needed.

Upon arrival, passengers proceed to a self-check-in kiosk to receive their boarding pass and check in their luggage. They then attach a tag to their luggage and place it on the conveyor belt at the self-bag drop counter. The system transports the luggage to the security control area and subsequently onto the plane. The entire process takes between 5 to 10 minutes.

Elvis Chao, Chief Representative of Starlux Airlines, emphasized the time-saving benefits of the automated system. "Previously, passengers had to queue and wait for their turn to check in their luggage. With the new automated system, passengers can save 15 to 20 minutes, completing the entire process at the kiosk," he said.

A representative from Da Nang International Airport Terminal Investment and Operation Joint Stock Company (AHT) said that several other airlines are preparing to integrate the automated baggage check-in system into their operations. The implementation follows the successful introduction of self-check-in counters, automatic immigration and exit gates, and automatic departure gates at Terminal T2.

The representative further explained that the integration of these automated systems significantly shortens the check-in process, enhances the passenger experience, and increases the terminal's operational efficiency during peak hours, ensuring smooth passenger movement.

With its recent 5-star rating by Skytrax standards, Da Nang International Terminal is committed to advancing digital transformation initiatives, aiming to develop Vietnam's first smart airport terminal.

After completing the automatic check-in procedure, passengers will receive a boarding pass and a baggage tag.
