In the video capturing the joyful wedding in a village in Dak Lak province, the beautiful Ede bride walks side by side with her foreign husband. The groom and his parents, also wearing traditional Ede clothing, join in the festive atmosphere of the special day.
The video has had over 200,000 views and thousands of likes on TikTok, with netizens leaving many engaging comments.
The bride is Adrong H Huong (born 1995, Dak Lak), and the groom is Kenneth Romlund Sommer (born 1988, from Denmark). Their wedding was held at the bride’s home on July 13.
“We had already held a wedding in Denmark in April 2024. Now, we finally had the chance to organize a wedding in Vietnam to receive blessings from my family,” Huong said.
Huong and Kenneth met in 2023 while she was an intern in veterinary studies in Denmark. Kenneth was smitten by Huong’s beauty at first sight.
He pursued her earnestly. Despite living 150km apart, he visited her every week. His thoughtful care gradually won Huong’s heart.
He texted her every day, worrying if she didn’t reply promptly. Each time they met, he cooked delicious meals for her.
“Kenneth said being with me makes him feel comfortable and true to himself. That’s why he loves me so much,” Huong recounted.
After three months of getting to know each other, Kenneth introduced Huong to his family.
She was touched by the warmth of his grandmother and parents. During Denmark’s freezing winter, noticing Huong’s thin clothing and bare feet, Kenneth’s mother knelt to put socks on her and wrapped a scarf around her neck.
It was more challenging for Huong to introduce him to her family.
“My mother worried that Westerners fall in love easily and leave just as quickly. When I told Kenneth, he cried and said, ‘Not all men are like that,’” Huong recalled.
Through Kenneth’s persistence and her determination, Huong successfully convinced her parents.
In May 2024, three weeks after their wedding in Denmark, Kenneth accompanied Huong to Vietnam to meet her family. She was surprised by how quickly he adapted, helping her parents with chores like cleaning the house, sweeping the yard, and cooking.
This visit strengthened Kenneth’s resolve to hold a wedding in Vietnam. Huong eagerly anticipated becoming a bride in her village.
In July, Kenneth’s parents flew to Vietnam to attend the wedding, organized in accordance with traditional Ede customs.
Beyond standard rituals, Huong’s wedding included a special ceremony where a shaman prayed for the couple’s health and well-being, which left the Danish groom surprised and impressed.
