Authorities in Gia Lai province reported on September 29 that a fishing vessel with eight crew members went missing after losing contact while operating at sea.
At 8:13 p.m. on September 27, the vessel BĐ 97258-TS, owned by Huynh Van Son (born 1981, resident of Hoai Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai province), was fishing about 147 nautical miles from Quy Nhon when its tracking system suddenly lost signal. Efforts to reach the captain and crew have since failed.
On the evening of September 28, the boat owner’s family reported the case to Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station, requesting urgent assistance.
The Gia Lai Border Guard Command mobilized four nearby fishing vessels to join the search. By the morning of September 29, however, no communication had been re-established with the missing boat.
There were eight crew members on board at the time of disappearance, including six from Gia Lai, one from Lam Dong, and one from Hai Phong. Search efforts are ongoing.
