Coach Kim Sang Sik is facing a series of challenges.

Mounting pressure

In just a few months, Kim Sang Sik and his squad will face a series of major tests, including the ASEAN Cup, FIFA ASEAN Cup, and the Asian Cup.

With such a congested schedule, even the anticipated arrival of newly naturalized players is unlikely to serve as a quick fix. The South Korean coach understands that individual brilliance alone cannot compensate for a lack of squad depth.

Competing across multiple fronts requires a well-balanced roster capable of rotation without weakening overall performance. The gap in quality between starting players and substitutes, along with the risk of injuries due to overexertion, remains a significant concern.

These challenges underline the need for fresh faces who can adapt quickly, while experienced players must maintain their competitive edge as regional football continues to improve.

Positive signals from the V-League

Fortunately for Kim Sang Sik, recent rounds of the V-League have brought a wave of positive news. The rapid development of young players following the AFC U23 Championship has provided a timely boost.

Among them, Dinh Bac stands out. After a 16-match goal drought, he has rediscovered his scoring touch, silencing doubts over his form.

Alongside him, players such as Nhat Minh, Xuan Bac, Minh Phuc, and Van Thuan have delivered consistent performances at club level, offering the coach a wider range of reliable options for the national team.

Beyond youthful energy, experienced players are also returning to form at the right moment. Names like Ho Tan Tai, Xuan Manh, and Ly Cong Hoang Anh are once again making their presence felt, reinforcing their roles in the team’s future plans.

While risks remain with many rounds still to be played in the V-League, these positive signs have at least provided Kim Sang Sik with a deeper and more competitive squad.

With a broader pool of talent now emerging, the Vietnam coach can approach the upcoming challenges with greater confidence and ambition.
