A source told VietNamNet on May 27 that authorities had rescued nine victims by 1:40 p.m., while search operations for the remaining two were continuing.
Earlier, at 8:58 a.m., the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center received an emergency distress report from the Hai Phong Border Guard Command stating that fishing vessel HP 90666 TS had lost contact.
According to initial information, the vessel was believed to have sunk at around 5 p.m. on May 26 at a location approximately 15 nautical miles southeast of Long Chau Island off Hai Phong.
Immediately after receiving the report, the rescue center issued a maritime alert and mobilized nearby vessels operating in the area to assist in search efforts.
Under the direction of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee and the Vietnam Maritime and Inland Waterways Administration, the rescue center dispatched specialized search-and-rescue vessel SAR 411 from Hai Phong at 9:42 a.m. on May 27.
By noon, rescue teams at the scene had successfully saved five fishermen.
The Hai Phong Border Guard Command also deployed two rescue vessels while mobilizing nearby fishing boats to join the operation.
The Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee ordered the maximum deployment of resources, including Coast Guard and Navy forces, to search for the six fishermen who were initially reported missing.
Hai Phong authorities convened an emergency meeting and instructed relevant agencies to mobilize all available personnel and equipment to support rescue and recovery efforts.
By 1:40 p.m., authorities confirmed that nine victims had been rescued and urgent efforts were continuing to locate the remaining two missing people.
VietNamNet will continue updating the story.
