In recent days, streets across Hue have been filled with national flags, Buddhist flags, flowers, lanterns and decorative displays welcoming Vesak 2570 in the Buddhist calendar, corresponding to 2026 in the Gregorian calendar.
The colors of Vesak can be seen throughout the city. National and Buddhist flags have been displayed on Truong Tien Bridge, Phu Xuan Bridge, Da Vien Bridge and many other locations. At Truong Tien Bridge, a large Buddhist flag carefully assembled from thousands of smaller flags has become a visual landmark for people crossing the bridge. Meanwhile, Gia Hoi Bridge has been decorated with more than 100 lotus flowers lining both sides, creating a vibrant scene.
In addition, lotus symbols, banners, signs and information boards related to the festival have been installed throughout the city. Wards and communes across Hue have also decorated bridges and major roads with flags and lights, giving the city an entirely new appearance.
The centerpiece of this year's Vesak season in Hue is the installation of seven lotus flowers on the Huong River. The spiritual display illuminates the river after dark and complements the two giant national and Buddhist flags prominently positioned along the riverbank.
The seven pink lotus flowers floating in the middle of the Huong River were created by female monastic students from the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hue, who personally attached fabric to the structural frames. The installation consists of seven lotus flowers with a total of 168 petals.
Each completed lotus flower measures 7.6 meters in diameter, nearly 4 meters in height and weighs up to 300 kilograms. Boat operators transported the structures into position in the middle of the river, spacing them approximately 200 meters apart.
Venerable Thich Huyen Dieu, head of the public decoration committee for Vesak celebrations in Hue, said the giant flag project was developed through a collaboration between the monk and artist Duong Minh Bao Tri.
According to Venerable Thich Huyen Dieu, the concept of creating a giant Buddhist flag was first introduced last year at Thuong Bac Park. This year, organizers chose new location in order to create space for the national flag to be displayed alongside it, marking a new feature of the 2026 Vesak celebrations.
