Official-looking images of the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 5 have already circulated online. However, attention has recently shifted to a circular LED element integrated into the camera bar on the back of the Pixel 11 Pro models.
For months, the technology community referred to the feature as "Pixel Glow" after references were discovered in Android preview builds. According to software engineer Dylan Roussel, who has built a reputation for uncovering unreleased Android features, Google may instead launch the feature under the name HiLight.
Roussel shared the information on X, commenting that some users might be disappointed by the new branding. Given his track record of accurately revealing unreleased Google features, the report is widely regarded as credible within the Android community.
If accurate, Pixel Glow may have been nothing more than Google's internal development codename before the company settled on HiLight as its consumer-facing brand.
The first traces of the feature were discovered in Android 17 Beta 4. Code strings described it as a system delivering "subtle light and color" effects while the phone is placed face down on a surface.
Although Google has teased the feature in promotional videos, the company has yet to explain exactly how it works.
Previous leaks suggest the LED system could notify users of calls from selected contacts without requiring them to turn the phone over. It is also expected to provide visual feedback during interactions with the Gemini AI assistant, creating a more engaging experience than conventional notification alerts.
If those reports prove accurate, HiLight could become one of the defining features of Google's premium Pixel lineup.
Current leaks indicate the circular LED module will be integrated into the camera bar and included across all three flagship models: the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
Earlier promotional materials released by Google appear to show the ring displaying multiple colors, potentially offering more expressive visual effects than the notification LEDs once common on smartphones.
The company has not officially confirmed the feature's capabilities. Users will likely have to wait until Google's launch event, scheduled for August 12, to learn exactly what HiLight can do.
While Google appears to view the new lighting system as a key differentiator for its flagship smartphones, reactions from the Android community have been divided.
On Reddit, some users argue the company should focus instead on hardware improvements such as faster performance, longer battery life or better camera capabilities, describing the rear LED system as more of a visual novelty than a practical feature.
Others have responded more positively. Some believe the design would look significantly more premium if lighting effects extended around the entire camera ring rather than illuminating only a small section.
Supporters also suggest the feature could give the Pixel lineup a distinctive visual identity, similar to the recognition that Nothing has achieved with its Glyph Interface.
