As a mountainous province, the northernmost border of the country, Ha Giang has a very important strategic position in terms of economy, society, defense, security and tourism development. It borders China to the northwest - a major market for Vietnamese tourism, and is also an important connection point of the East-Northwest tourism arc.

Along with the development trend and the inevitability of regional-level linkages, in recent years, the province has implemented many development cooperation programs to exploit and promote the strengths of each province on the basis of similar characteristics in history, culture and tourism resource potential to promote the common development of the entire region.

To make a breakthrough in tourism, Resolution 11 of the Provincial Party Committee sets out the goal of striving for Ha Giang to become a key tourist area of the Northern mountainous and midland provinces by 2025; turn tourism into a key economic sector, contributing 10.34% of the value to the total products in the area and build a provincial-level tourist zone.

Thanks to methodical work, focusing on management and organization, it is expected that by the end of 2023, Ha Giang's tourism will basically reach the goal of attracting 3 million visitors in the period 2021-2025, making tourism its key economic sector.

Currently, the total number of workers in the tourism industry in Ha Giang is 12,000 people. By the end of 2023, there will be an estimated of 15,000 workers in the tourism sector, reaching 53.2% of the target set out in Resolution 11. There are 874 tourist accommodation establishments in the province, including 108 hotels with 7,911 rooms and 15,573 beds. The number of food service establishments is 3,177, including 640 restaurants, reaching 97.9% of the goal set by Resolution 11.

Ha Giang is ranked 25th out of 52 most attractive destinations in the world by the New York Times Magazine (USA); one of the 10 most beautiful destinations in Vietnam by Canadian travel newspaper The Travel; nominated as "Asia's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination" in 2023 at the 30th World Travel Awards in Asia and Oceania... These titles contribute to promote Ha Giang tourism to a large number of international friends.

Resolution 11 of the Provincial Party Committee sets the goal that by 2025, Ha Giang will become a key tourist area of the northern mountainous and midland provinces; turn tourism into a key economic sector, contributing 10.34% of the value to the total product in the area and build a provincial-level tourist area.
