Hanoi is focusing its resources on constructing nine additional bridges over the Red River, complementing the city’s existing nine bridges.
The announcement was made by Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, during a government and local authority meeting on January 8 to review 2024’s progress and outline 2025’s objectives.
Chairman Tran Sy Thanh revealed that Hanoi’s 2024 economic growth reached 6.52% (compared to 6.27% in 2023), with a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of nearly $59 billion and an average per capita GRDP of $6,500. The city’s revenue exceeded 500 trillion VND ($21 billion) for the first time, a 23.8% increase from 2023.
The city has approved the construction of three bridges: Hong Ha, Me So, and Van Phuc. In addition, plans are being finalized for three more: Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao, and Ngoc Hoi.
These bridges are part of a larger effort to improve Hanoi's transportation network, foster regional connectivity, and support economic growth.
Hanoi is implementing comprehensive measures to tackle environmental pollution under its "Bright, Green, Clean, Beautiful Capital" initiative.
This approach seeks active participation from all political levels and citizens.
The city has also established a "Steering Committee for Anti-Wastefulness Measures," making it the first locality in Vietnam to adopt this strategy.
Chairman Thanh emphasized that 2025 will be pivotal for Hanoi as it accelerates development, aiming to propel Vietnam into a new era of national growth and resilience.

At the meeting, HCMC Chairman Phan Van Mai highlighted the city’s achievements in 2024, including a 7.17% growth rate and a revenue of 508 trillion VND ($21 billion).
