The operation was initiated based on intelligence gathered through patrolling, monitoring, and extensive experience in drug control. The Hanoi Customs Department received information about a large shipment of drugs being transported from Germany to Vietnam.

The Drug Control Team proposed establishing a special project, codenamed HP 524, which was to be chaired by the Hanoi Customs Department. This project involved close coordination with PC 04 (Hanoi City Police) and the North Hanoi Customs Branch to combat the drug smuggling operation.

On June 4, the special task force successfully arrested four suspects and seized approximately 179kg of synthetic MDMA. This operation stands out as the largest drug seizure via air transport in Vietnam to date.

The suspects were apprehended as part of a coordinated effort to dismantle a major drug trafficking ring operating from Germany to Vietnam. The seizure included a substantial quantity of synthetic drugs, which were carefully concealed and transported via Noi Bai International Airport.

The evidence collected during the operation underscores the scale and sophistication of the trafficking operation. Photos from the scene show the functional forces inspecting and documenting the seized shipment.

The leader of the Drug Control Team emphasized that 2024 has been marked by rigorous efforts in drug prevention and control. This includes implementing a comprehensive plan for drug prevention action month, based on local situations, professional warnings, and directives from higher authorities.

The Hanoi Customs Department has developed and issued synchronized plans and measures to enhance drug prevention and control efforts. These plans involve close coordination with specialized drug prevention forces to combat and dismantle drug trafficking networks, particularly those operating through air transport channels.
