The Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee is decorating the area around Hoan Kiem Lake under the theme "Ribbon of Memories" to mark the 72nd anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day, Oct. 10, 1954 - Oct. 10, 2026, and Vietnam Culture Day on Nov. 24.
A centerpiece of the initiative is the "Ribbon of Memories," a landscape installation designed to blend with the surroundings of Hoan Kiem Lake while combining art, landscaping and lighting.
The installation includes an elevated scenic walkway incorporating lighting and mirrored frames, creating an open space where residents and visitors can explore, experience the surroundings and take photographs.
The design is intended to offer new perspectives of Hoan Kiem Lake while encouraging people to interact with the urban environment in a more engaging and accessible way.
The installation is being built within the gardens and pedestrian paths along the western shore of Hoan Kiem Lake, running along Le Thai To Street and southwest of Turtle Tower.
According to the design, the walkway does not impose a straight axis on the landscape but instead changes direction to accommodate existing trees.
It is raised slightly above the ground, taking pedestrians over low vegetation and lawns while minimizing direct impact on the root systems of large trees and preserving the continuity of the landscape underneath.
A representative of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee said the bridge's architectural language emphasizes a slender, lightweight and transparent appearance, featuring a light-colored deck, streamlined structural elements and minimalist metal railings.
At several points, the walkway widens or changes direction to form what designers describe as "balconies overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake," where visitors can stop and take photographs with the lake, Turtle Tower and the distinctive landscape of central Hanoi in the background.
At night, linear LED lighting installed beneath the handrails or along the edges of the walkway will create a soft ribbon of light through the trees, producing a visual effect without competing with the surrounding Hoan Kiem Lake landscape.
Speaking to VietNamNet, a representative of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee said the project is being financed through private contributions and is expected to remain in place from Oct. 8 through the end of November 2026.
The installation is temporary. Once it is removed, the contractor will restore the area to its original condition.
