On March 12, Hanoi police said Nghia Do Ward Police had issued an administrative penalty against an individual for posting false information related to gasoline and oil price increases.

Authorities previously detected a social media account sharing misleading and inaccurate content about a fuel price hike, which caused confusion and had the potential to influence public opinion.

Following verification, Nghia Do Ward Police identified the account holder as D.X.H., 23, residing in Huong Son commune in Hanoi.

During questioning, H. said he worked as a salesperson for electric vehicles. In order to attract engagement and increase followers to boost sales, he posted unverified and fabricated information about gasoline price increases on social media.

H. later voluntarily removed the content and pledged to comply strictly with legal regulations when using social media platforms.

Nghia Do Ward Police subsequently imposed a fine of VND7.5 million (approximately US$305) on H. for providing and sharing fabricated and false information, including content that distorts facts, slanders organizations, and harms the reputation, honor, or dignity of individuals.
