The decision was made at the Party Central Committee’s extraordinary meeting on June 6, after considering the proposal from the Politburo as well as the content, consequences and causes of the two officials' violations.

Chu Ngoc Anh is also Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Secretary of the Party delegation to the municipal People’s Committee. Previously, he was former Secretary of the Party delegation to the Ministry of Science and Technology and former Minister of Science and Technology.

Nguyen Thanh Long is Secretary of the Party delegation to the Ministry of Health.

The Party Central Committee also asked competent agencies to urgently take administrative punishments on them.

Earlier, at a meeting on June 4 of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Politburo gave warning as a disciplinary measure to the Party delegations to the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health in the 2016-2021 tenure over their wrongdoings.

At this meeting, the Politburo also asked the Party Central Committee to consider and decide disciplinary measures against Chu Ngoc Anh and Nguyen Thanh Long.

The Politburo and the Secretariat made the decisions after considering proposals from the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission.

The Politburo and the Secretariat concluded that the violations of regulations and mistakes committed by the Party committees at the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health had caused serious consequences.

The two officials have degraded in political ideology, morality and lifestyle, violated the Party’s regulations and the State’s laws, resulting in very severe consequences and big losses to the State budget, thus affecting the pandemic control work and causing great public concern along with bad impact on the prestige of the Party organization and the two ministries.
