On the afternoon of July 24, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee urgently prepared for the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Independence Palace (District 1).

The National Funeral for Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the southern region will take place at the Reunification Hall, located at 135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1. The public viewing will be open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on July 25, 2024, and from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM on July 26, 2024. The memorial ceremony will begin at 1:00 PM on July 26, 2024.

For those attending the funeral, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has emphasized the need for delegation leaders, formal and dark attire, and adherence to National Funeral protocols. Attendees are not allowed to bring flowers, fruits, or incense. Individuals should avoid bringing bags and only carry a black mourning ribbon (80cm x 15cm) with white text indicating the name of their organization.

Attendees are required to present identification or use the VNeID application for QR code scanning and security checks.

Local authorities from the 19 southern provinces and cities are requested to register their participation with the offices of the HCM City Party Committee, HCM City People's Committee, and HCM City National Assembly delegation and HCM City People's Council offices before 10:00 AM on July 24 to arrange specific visiting times.

A tent set up along the entrance for visitors.  By July 24 afternoon, the preparations for the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong were being conducted urgently and solemnly, with deep respect and sorrow for a leader dedicated to the country and its people.

Additionally, during the two days of the state funeral, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requires agencies, units, enterprises, schools, hospitals, and armed forces units to fly the national flag at half-mast with a black mourning band, ensuring the flag is not waving and is only raised to two-thirds of the pole's height. Public recreational and entertainment activities are to be suspended.
