According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, many areas across northern and north-central Vietnam will experience showers and thunderstorms from the night of August 29 through September 1, including periods of moderate to heavy rain and locally very heavy downpours.

During the night of August 29 and early morning of August 30, northern Vietnam is forecast to receive showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall generally ranging from 15-30mm and exceeding 70mm in some areas. Residents should be alert to tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong wind gusts during thunderstorms.

Rainfall will be heavier from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, averaging 20-40mm and exceeding 100mm in some locations.

More notably, heavy rain is expected to continue during the night of August 30 and throughout August 31 in Hanoi, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh and Lang Son. Rainfall during this period is forecast at 30-60mm, with some places receiving more than 130mm.

Weather conditions in northern Vietnam are expected to improve from September 1, with sunshine returning.

Heavy rain to continue from Thanh Hoa to Hue

From August 31 to September 1, the area stretching from Thanh Hoa to Hue is forecast to see continued moderate to heavy rain, with total rainfall of 50-100mm and more than 180mm in some locations. Authorities have warned of the risk of intense rainfall exceeding 100mm within three hours.

The weather agency has urged residents in affected areas to prepare for possible flooding, flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas, along rivers and streams, and in mountainous regions.

People are also advised to closely follow weather forecasts and warnings so they can adjust their travel and leisure plans during the National Day holiday.

Storm could develop in the East Sea

At sea, forecasters are closely monitoring the low-pressure area that weakened from Typhoon Saudel.

During the day and night of September 1, the system could move from Guangdong, China, back into the northern part of the East Sea.

More notably, the low-pressure area could regenerate and strengthen into a storm. The development will require particularly close monitoring during the holiday period, especially for vessels operating at sea.

The national weather agency has already warned of heavy rainfall from August 31 to September 1 and is continuing to closely monitor developments related to Saudel.

Night of August 30-August 31: Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected, with locally heavy rain. The northern delta and Lang Son Province are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, with very heavy rain in some places.

September 1-2: Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast during the late afternoon and evening, with sunny conditions during the day.

Lowest temperatures: 23-27 degrees Celsius, falling below 23 degrees in some mountainous areas.

Highest temperatures: 31-34 degrees Celsius, exceeding 34 degrees in some places. On August 31, highs are forecast at 29-32 degrees Celsius.

Central Vietnam: Night of August 29-August 30: From Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, with rain and moderate rain during the late afternoon and evening and locally heavy downpours.

Elsewhere, conditions will be sunny, with hot weather in some places. Da Nang, eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa will experience hot conditions, with severe heat in some locations. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast during the late afternoon and evening.

Lowest temperatures: 24-28 degrees Celsius.

Highest temperatures: 31-35 degrees Celsius. In Da Nang, eastern areas from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa, temperatures will reach 34-37 degrees Celsius and exceed 38 degrees in some locations.

August 31-September 2: The area from Thanh Hoa to Hue could experience moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places. From September 2, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, while daytime conditions will be sunny and hot in some areas.

The south-central coast will see isolated showers and thunderstorms, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in northern parts of the region during the late afternoon.

Highest temperatures: 30-34 degrees Celsius in northern parts of the region and 32-35 degrees in the south, exceeding 35 degrees in some locations.

Central Highlands and southern Vietnam: Conditions will be sunny during the day, with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected during the afternoon and evening, with locally heavy rain.

Lowest temperatures: 21-24 degrees Celsius in the Central Highlands and 24-27 degrees in southern Vietnam.

Highest temperatures: 27-30 degrees Celsius in the Central Highlands and 31-34 degrees in southern Vietnam.

Hanoi: Night of August 29-August 30: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected at night, with locally heavy rain, followed by sunny conditions during the day.

Night of August 30-August 31: Moderate to heavy rain is possible, with very heavy rain in some locations.

September 1-2: Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast during the late afternoon and evening, with sunny conditions during the day.
