The speed of publishing international articles by Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City National University (VNU-HCM) announced the publication of 4,153 scientific papers across domestic and international journals and conferences. Of these, 3,120 were published in international journals indexed by SCIE, SSCI, and Scopus.

This achievement was disclosed by Vu Hai Quan, Director of VNU-HCM, at the university's annual conference held on December 26.

According to Quan, VNU-HCM continues to lead the nation in scientific publications, particularly in highly regarded international journals indexed in Web of Science (Clarivate) and Scopus (Elsevier).

Significant growth in high-quality publications

Data from Scopus between 2020 and June 2024 reveals that approximately 66% of VNU-HCM’s publications appeared in Q1 and Q2-ranked journals, with this proportion increasing annually. Notably, Q1-ranked articles accounted for 40.8% of all publications during this period.

VNU-HCM researchers also made significant strides in basic science research by collaborating with domestic and international institutions to publish in prestigious high-impact factor (IF) journals.

Examples include:

Nature Reviews Earth and Environment (IF = 49.7)

Applied Catalysis B: Environmental (IF = 22.1)

Nano Energy (IF = 16.8)

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science (IF = 15.9)

PhotoniX (IF = 15.7)

Environmental Chemistry Letters (IF = 15)

One notable publication was the article titled "Building resilience in Asian mega deltas" in Nature Reviews Earth and Environment (IF = 49.7).

Policies driving scientific success

Quan highlighted that VNU-HCM’s success is a result of strategic policies in research and development. These include:

Establishing key research programs tied to strong research groups.

Piloting centers of excellence.

Providing financial support for conferences that yield Scopus-indexed proceedings.

Allocating resources transparently and competitively, based on measurable outcomes.

“These initiatives have had a significant positive impact, driving effective results,” Quan emphasized.
