Cat Ba Islands

The first phase of the USD220 million project will see tourism infrastructure built on Cat Hai and Cat Ba islands, public beaches, entertainment parks, and the Cat Ong and Monkey Island tourism sites.

The Sun Group will develop the project. The huge development is part of Haiphong’s tourism development strategy until 2020 with a vision towards 2030, aiming to make tourism the city’s economic spearhead.

In 2004, the islands at Cat Ba were declared a UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Area in order to protect the multiple terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems as well the diverse plant and animal life that is found on the Island.

The UNESCO designation divides the archipelago into three distinct areas, each with certain functions and restrictions that regulate development and conservation measures on the Island.
