2023 is the year that marks Vietnam's role and position at the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term. Vietnam faces many great opportunities and challenges for human rights work. In that situation, the 2023 national human rights training conference was organized to provide the latest information on the situation of democracy and human rights; unify awareness, ideology and action from the central to local human rights steering committees, especially the people directly working on human rights.

The conference, which was jointly organized by the Standing Office of the Govrnment's Human Rights Steering Committee and the Human Rights Steering Committee of Dak Nong province on July 18, attracted more than 300 delegates from 22 provinces and cities.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Standing Deputy Head of the Government’s Steering Committee on Human Rights affirmed: "Human rights is increasingly becoming an important issue in the world political life, one of the three pillars of the United Nations' activities along with peace, security and development".

In the context of increasingly complicated developments in the world and the region, with strong impacts on the domestic situation, intervention activities against Vietnam in terms of democracy and human rights are reported with high intensity, especially the issues of ethnicity, religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, establishment of independent trade unions...

Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quoc Hung emphasized that the event that Vietnam becoming a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term has shown the trust of international friends and the international community.

Under the close guidance of the Government’s Human Rights Steering Committee and the consensus, determination and efforts of the Human Rights Steering Committees of 63 provinces and cities, human rights work in Vietnam has moved strongly with positive changes.

However, besides the positive aspects, there are still many shortcomings and limitations, so it is necessary to frankly acknowledge and come up with solutions to improve the effectiveness of human rights work at the grassroots level, including the implementation of proactive solutions to grasp the situation from afar and early; raising awareness and skills in handling situations for officials directly working on human rights; ensuring social security, people's rights, and effectively fighting against activities that take advantage of democracy and human rights issues to sabotage Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung reminded local authorities to pay attention and not let hostile forces take advantage of the above issues to affect stability, political security and social order and safety.

Dak Nong Province seriously and synchronously implements human right work

Recognizing the importance of human rights work in socio-economic development, with the attention and leadership of relevant ministries and agencies, especially the Government’s Human Rights Steering Committee, human rights issues are implemented seriously, synchronously and effectively by Dak Nong province.

Dak Nong Province always pays attention to socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, especially in the fields of social security, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, freedom of belief and religion, and resolving complaints and denunciations.

After nearly 20 years of development, with the determination of the entire local political system, the province’s economy has grown well, people's lives have gradually improved.

In the past 2 years, the province has implemented strong administrative reforms, proven by the improvement of its CPI index, which has increased 14 places. Dak Nong province has also ensured the legitimate rights and interests of citizens, especially in the fields of social security, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and ensuring the rights of ethnic minorities.

However, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, head of Dak Nong’s Human Rights Steering Committee, frankly acknowledged that although the security and order situation in the area is guaranteed, there are still many complex and unpredictable factors, especially activities that take advantage of democracy, human rights, ethnic and religious issues of hostile forces. Awareness of human rights issues among some officials, civil servants, and public employees in some agencies, units, and localities is not really complete...

Therefore, human rights training will contribute to raising and unifying awareness of rights issues, creating a solid basis for the fight against slander and distortion of hostile forces.
