On the evening of June 7, Truong Thi Thanh Huyen, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Phuc Loc Commune, said authorities and local residents had largely brought the forest fire under control and extinguished the blaze.
According to initial information, local residents discovered the fire earlier that afternoon in the Ru Xuan forest area of Phuc Loc Commune. Extreme heat and strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly across a large area, making containment efforts particularly difficult.
Immediately after receiving reports of the fire, local authorities mobilized hundreds of people, including police officers, military personnel, militia forces and local residents, to the scene to assist with firefighting operations.
At the site, emergency crews deployed multiple measures simultaneously, including creating firebreaks to prevent the blaze from spreading further, while using leaf blowers and hand tools to isolate and contain the fire.
By around 9:30 p.m., the blaze had been largely brought under control.
According to local authorities, the preliminary cause of the fire was identified as vegetation burning by local residents that accidentally spread out of control. Officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage.
Prior to the incident, prolonged extreme heat had prompted the Nghe An Provincial Steering Committee for Forest Management, Protection, Development and Forest Fire Prevention and Control to issue an urgent notice raising the forest fire warning level to Level 4 - classified as dangerous - across the province from June 1 to June 7.
