Luxury cars abandoned at Saigon Port.

According to the HCM City Customs Department, 97 luxury cars imported as asset of overseas Vietnamese are left at the city’s ports. The owners are individuals from 27 provinces and cities. There are also dozens of other cars awaiting clarification.

The abandoned cars are luxury brands like Audi, Lexus, BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, Escalade ... but they are being exposed to the sun and rain.

Most recently, on February 9, the customs staff of the Cat Lai Port seized four luxury cars which were imported from the US into Vietnam as assets of overseas Vietnamese, but they failed to meet conditions for imports.

The owners wanted to re-export the cars but the customs authorities did not agree. The cars were seized and the case was transferred to the HCM City Customs Department.

In addition, there are many imported cars for the recipients in HCM City but the recipients did not come up to do customs procedures, so the authorities cannot determine whether these cars meet import conditions or not.

For imported cars of vague origins, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has imposed administrative fines and forced to re-export on dozen of cases.
