On March 27, provincial authorities held a press briefing to announce the Hung Kings Commemoration - Hung Kings Temple Festival and the Cultural and Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land in the Year of Binh Ngo 2026.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Huy Ngoc emphasized that this year’s festival carries special significance. It is the first to be held under the newly implemented administrative restructuring and the two-tier local government model.
According to Ngoc, the event is a major cultural and spiritual occasion to honor the Hung Kings - the legendary founders of the nation - and holds profound meaning for people across Vietnam as well as overseas Vietnamese communities.
It also presents a “golden opportunity” for the province to showcase the cultural richness of the ancestral land, thereby promoting tourism and enhancing its image and standing.
Festival organizers said the event will consist of two main parts: solemn ceremonial rituals and a vibrant series of cultural, sports and tourism activities. The celebrations will run for 10 days, from April 17 to 26 (corresponding to the first to the tenth day of the third lunar month).
The ceremonial segment will include traditional rites such as incense offerings to commemorate the Hung Kings, tributes to Lac Long Quan and Au Co, and the main commemoration ceremony on April 26 (the 10th day of the third lunar month).
The festive segment will feature a wide range of cultural, sports and tourism activities.
A key highlight this year is the revival of the traditional street folk culture festival, which will be linked with the “Colors of Ancestral Land Tourism” program.
Notably, for the first time, all 148 communes and wards of Phu Tho will be divided into 18 groups to participate in the incense offering ceremonies and traditional cultural activities, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity and cultural exchange.
According to the Hung Kings Temple historical site management board, the main day of the festival is expected to attract around 500,000 visitors.
