A great hornbill, scientifically known as Buceros bicornis, rare bird species on the endangered wild animals list, was rescued in the southern province of Tay Ninh.

The great hornbill, scientifically known as Buceros bicornis. 


The bird, weighing 2.5 kilograms, was seized by the Tay Ninh police while being illegally trafficked by a local resident on March 3.

The case is being investigated and procedures are underway to release the bird into the wild.

According to the Tay Ninh Forest Management, the bird is listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as “near threatened”.
