With only a few weeks left until Apple officially unveils the iPhone 17 lineup, each model in the series has its own unique appeal to attract consumers. However, among them, the iPhone 17 Pro is predicted to face more challenges than usual in the sales race.

The introduction of the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max could sideline the 17 Pro into a niche category. Traditionally, Apple has offered two premium models: the Pro and the Pro Max. But this year, consumers will have three high-end options: the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone 17 Air.

Replacing the Plus line, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with features that closely resemble the Pro models and might be priced even higher. What sets the Air apart is its ultra-thin, futuristic design - making it stand out as a “premium” device in its own right.

In other words, for users seeking a next-gen iPhone that feels fresh and forward-looking, the iPhone 17 Air is likely to be the model of choice.

Of course, not everyone will opt for the Air. Its biggest drawbacks remain in battery life and camera quality. However, the model most negatively impacted by the Air's arrival is undoubtedly the iPhone 17 Pro.

For users who want the most powerful and feature-rich iPhone, the iPhone 17 Pro Max remains the top pick.

Leaked reports suggest that the Pro Max will have a thicker chassis to accommodate the largest battery Apple has ever put in an iPhone. It may also include an improved telephoto camera compared to the standard Pro model.

Additionally, users have long shown a strong preference for larger screens.

So, if battery life, camera performance, and display size are top priorities, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is the obvious choice.

On the other hand, if you want a phone that feels new and iconic - similar to the excitement the iPhone X generated - the iPhone 17 Air might be the one worth upgrading for.

With its ultra-thin, revolutionary design, the 17 Air could become the must-have iPhone for those looking to experience something different.

Given this context, the iPhone 17 Pro risks becoming a less appealing option.

While the 17 Pro Max delivers exceptional performance, battery life, camera capabilities, and a large display, and the Air brings freshness and bold design, the 17 Pro seems “stuck in the middle” with little that makes it stand out.

The question now is whether Apple is willing to let the Pro line lose market share to both the Pro Max and Air this year.
