Apple's rumored foldable iPhone Duo may be attracting considerable attention, but the standard iPhone 18 could still emerge as one of the world's best-selling smartphones.

Recent leaks suggest Apple may be considering more than routine hardware upgrades for its next-generation iPhone, with a possible redesign that would distinguish it sharply from the iPhone 17.

Leaked iPhone 18 model shows unusual camera design

Tipster MajinBu recently shared images of what is claimed to be a dummy model of the upcoming iPhone 18.

The device features a deep reddish-purple finish resembling burgundy, along with a rear camera arrangement that differs significantly from its predecessor.

At first glance, the model looks more like an entirely new smartphone design than a conventional successor to the iPhone 17.

The most striking change concerns the rear camera housing.

The two cameras remain positioned in the upper-left corner, similar to the iPhone 17. However, instead of being contained within a relatively compact camera module, the leaked model features a raised camera section extending across almost the entire width of the upper rear panel.

This arrangement creates a noticeably different appearance, making the upper portion of the phone more prominent.

If Apple adopts the design for a commercial product, it could represent one of the most significant visual changes to the standard iPhone lineup in recent years.

The differences extend beyond the camera module.

While the iPhone 17 has a relatively seamless and uniform rear design, the purported iPhone 18 model features an engraved panel that exposes the area where the MagSafe magnets are positioned.

The result is a back panel divided into visually distinct sections rather than the continuous surface associated with Apple's current design.

That detail has prompted particularly mixed reactions, with some observers questioning whether Apple would abandon its familiar minimalist aesthetic.

Would Apple really abandon its seamless design?

Although MajinBu has previously shared some credible information about upcoming technology products, the latest images should be treated with caution.

Apple has not confirmed that the dummy model represents the final design of the iPhone 18.

One reason for skepticism is the scale of the apparent changes after just one generation.

Based on Apple's previous design evolution, moving from a relatively seamless rear panel to a visibly segmented structure would be an unexpected decision.

However, leaked dummy models do not necessarily reflect the appearance of finished commercial devices.

Some may be produced for internal testing, dimensional simulations or accessory manufacturers preparing cases and other products ahead of launch.

Certain visual details could therefore be functional elements of a prototype rather than features intended for consumers.

There is currently insufficient evidence to conclude that Apple will retain the design shown in the leaked images when the iPhone 18 officially launches.

Nevertheless, if the model reflects a genuine design direction under consideration, it could signal Apple's willingness to experiment with the appearance of its mainstream smartphone lineup.

At a time when many smartphones increasingly resemble one another, a distinctive design could help Apple differentiate its next-generation iPhone in a highly competitive market.

For now, the images offer an intriguing possibility rather than a confirmed preview of Apple's plans.
