In less than a month, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and neighboring provinces were struck by two successive storms  -  No.5 (Kajiki) and No.10 (Bualoi)  -  with winds gusting above level 12 and torrential rains. The destruction has left countless families homeless, and production facilities and crops destroyed.

According to statistics, storm No.10 alone claimed 13 lives, injured or left dozens missing, damaged more than 105,000 homes, and washed away thousands of hectares of crops and aquaculture. Schools, clinics, transport routes, and irrigation works also suffered heavy destruction.

Behind the numbers are stories of anguish. In Ha Tinh, single mother Vo Thi Tinh, 50, sobbed uncontrollably. Within just one month, her roof was torn away twice. She had only just patched it up after storm No.5 when storm No.10 struck again, leaving her in despair.

In Nghe An, couple Nguyen Huu Sy and Nguyen Thi Dung were left destitute after their poultry farm, once worth billions of dong, was reduced to piles of carcasses and broken shelters. The damage exceeded 1 billion VND (around 40,000 USD). Earlier, storm No.5 had already cost them hundreds of millions.

Schools in coastal districts such as Loc Ha, Ky Anh, Quynh Luu, and Dien Chau were also ravaged. Tin roofs, windows, desks, and books were blown away. Hundreds of students are now forced to study in makeshift classrooms. Anxiety is etched on the faces of both teachers and children.
