korean director arrested over smuggling charges picture 1
Kang Myung-gyu (centre), director of Takson Hue, has been detained for investigations over smuggling charges

Kang Myung-gyu, 58, living in Phu Bai ward of Huong Thuy town, Thua Thien-Hue province, is the company’s legal representative.

Authorities also banned two other defendants from leaving their places of residence, pending investigations. The two defendants were Vu Thi Nguyet, 36 who is Kang’s interpreter, and Nguyen Ngoc Hiep, 41, who is the company’s staff.

Initial investigations show Takson Hue is permitted to import goods such as fabric materials and other auxiliary materials for processing, and the finished products will only be exported to foreign countries.

However, Kang, the director of the company, directed his subordinates Nguyet and Hiep to sell nearly 18,000 clothing products to the Vietnamese market without making any declaration to the customs authorities.

The police have seized these products and are continuing to investigate and handle the case according to the law.
