According to initial information, at around 1 a.m. on August 21, a Nha Be Commune Police patrol discovered that a foreign national had fallen into the river near the bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.

Faced with the emergency, officers quickly launched a rescue operation, working with local residents to take a boat into the fast-flowing water, reach the man and bring him safely to shore.

After the rescue, police arranged temporary accommodation for the man and bought him food and fresh clothes.

Seeing that he was distressed and emotionally overwhelmed, officers spoke with him, offered reassurance and helped him regain his composure.

With the assistance of an interpreter, the man told police that he was a 46-year-old South Korean national who had entered Vietnam on August 17 for a holiday and was scheduled to return home on August 25.

He said prolonged difficulties and losses in his business back home had left him feeling desperate, eventually leading to the suicide attempt.

Moved by the care he received, the tourist wrote a letter of thanks to Nha Be Commune Police through an interpreter.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the officers for risking their safety late at night to rescue him and for continuing to support and encourage him afterward.

He said their words helped him recognize the value of life and realize that jumping into the river had been “a foolish act.”

After abandoning his suicidal intentions, the South Korean tourist contacted relatives, who came to take him to a safe place.
