Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has directed authorities to intensify investigations and strictly handle corruption, waste and misconduct cases linked to Long Thanh International Airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters project and several other key sectors of the economy.

The instruction was highlighted during a press briefing following the 30th meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Combat of Corruption, Waste and Negative Phenomena.

Dang Van Dung, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Internal Affairs Commission, outlined several priority tasks for the committee during the second half of 2026.

Among the key priorities is the amendment of the Land Law and the development of a special resolution addressing legal violations involving state-owned enterprises, private businesses, science and technology applications, innovation and digital transformation.

The steering committee also called for a comprehensive review of Vietnam's legal framework to identify loopholes, bottlenecks and weaknesses that create opportunities for corruption, waste and misconduct. Authorities have been tasked with proposing timely amendments and establishing more effective oversight mechanisms.

Another major focus is achieving a breakthrough in efforts to combat wastefulness.

The Party Committee of the Government, along with provincial and municipal Party committees, has been instructed to resolve by the end of 2026 long-delayed projects, stalled construction works and surplus public properties resulting from government restructuring and administrative reorganization.

Dung said the steering committee also emphasized the need to accelerate inspections, audits, investigations and the resolution of serious and complex corruption and waste cases occurring in strategic sectors of the economy.

In particular, Party Chief and President To Lam instructed authorities to prioritize investigations and strictly handle cases related to Long Thanh International Airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters project, and sectors including food safety, environmental protection, minerals, energy, land management, finance and banking, as well as other critical areas of the economy.

The committee also called for closer coordination among enforcement agencies to remove obstacles in asset recovery and evidence management throughout the investigation, prosecution, trial and enforcement stages.

According to the committee, asset recovery should be treated as a key indicator of the effectiveness of anti-corruption, anti-waste and misconduct enforcement efforts.

The steering committee further stressed the importance of prevention through early intervention, stronger grassroots-level oversight and increased use of data-driven monitoring systems.

Priority will be given to strengthening power control mechanisms and regularly supervising the performance of officials and Party members at the local level. Authorities are also expected to complete monitoring activities related to five Politburo regulations on power control and corruption prevention, particularly in personnel management and appointments.

The committee additionally called for the timely replacement or resignation of officials who demonstrate inadequate professional capacity, irresponsibility, or signs of involvement in corruption, waste or misconduct.

Earlier on June 18, Mr. To Lam chaired the 30th meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Combat of Corruption, Waste and Negative Phenomena at the Party Central Committee headquarters in Hanoi.
