Heavy rain and strong winds across the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Tuesday caused one death, wrecked or blew away the roofs of almost 1,200 houses and inflicted serious damage on local property.

According to a report from the office of the municipal steering committee for response to climate change and search-rescue mission, the affected localities include Tinh Bien, An Phu, Phu Tan, and Cho Moi districts and Tan Chau Town.

The victim was a resident of Tinh Bien District who was struck by lightning while herding ducks.

After the disaster, local authorities visited affected families, helped them secure temporary shelters and gave them necessities and rice.

Commune-level police and military forces have been helping residents move assets and repair their houses, while safeguarding local security and order.
