Two special helicopter missions from Regiment 916 of the Air Defense - Air Force Command have successfully delivered about 5 tons of food supplies to flood-affected, isolated communities in Lang Son province.
At 9:00 AM on October 8, Regiment 916 dispatched two military helicopters carrying food relief to Yen Binh and Van Nham communes in Lang Son, which had been cut off by rising floodwaters.
Before takeoff, the mission team held a briefing to finalize the flight route and precise drop-off points for the aid packages.
The cargo was prepared by Joint Stock Company 22 under the General Department of Logistics, including essential items such as milk, instant noodles, dried food, and bottled drinking water.
The helicopters took off at 10:05 AM and 10:35 AM, flying to multiple locations within the two communes to conduct aerial relief drops.
From the air, vast sections of Kep commune in Bac Ninh were visibly submerged beneath floodwaters.
In Lang Son, entire villages and residential areas were completely isolated due to floodwaters.
On the night of October 7 and into the morning of October 8, Lang Son authorities and emergency forces continued to evacuate residents and relocate property from areas severely inundated by flooding.
In That Khe commune, one of Lang Son’s hardest-hit "flood basins," water levels rose to between 1.5 and 2 meters. Many single-story homes were submerged up to the roof, and even the first floors of taller buildings were underwater.
Each helicopter carried 2.5 tons of food, delivering the relief directly to the two flooded communes.
Due to the lack of suitable landing zones in the flood-stricken areas, the helicopters flew at low altitude and used aerial drop methods to deliver the aid.
Locals were informed in advance and stood ready in dry areas to receive the packages quickly and safely, ensuring the mission’s success.
According to preliminary reports from the Lang Son Department of Agriculture and Environment, as of the end of October 7, more than 2,000 households had been affected by flooding ranging from 30 centimeters to 2 meters. Many villages in Yen Binh, Van Nham, That Khe, and Trang Dinh remained isolated.
In addition, 153 roadways suffered landslides or were submerged. Several bridges and low crossings were underwater. Power poles were damaged or toppled, causing widespread blackouts in multiple communes. Some remote villages also lost telecommunications signals.
