On October 24, social media was abuzz with debates over the transparency of an invitation from the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) sent to beauty queen Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen. The controversy stemmed from a discrepancy in the date on the document, which was dated August 27, 2024, even though Ky Duyen was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam on September 14, 2024.
The issue came to light after National Director Huong Ly presented the invitation to Ky Duyen during a send-off event, which was later posted on social media. Although the content was quickly taken down, screenshots of the invitation had already spread, sparking various speculations about the fairness of the competition.
In response to public queries, Miss Universe Vietnam officially clarified the situation.
According to the organization, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen received the official invitation in Spanish from MUO five days after being crowned, on September 19, 2024. To facilitate the visa application process, Miss Universe Vietnam requested an English version of the invitation from MUO.
The English version was sent by MUO on October 1, 2024, and this was the document that stirred the controversy on social media. The organizers explained that a simple clerical error in the date entry led to the confusion and misunderstandings regarding the event's transparency.
To substantiate their claim, Miss Universe Vietnam released two emails, showing the actual dates when MUO sent the documents.
Miss Universe Vietnam reaffirmed that all procedures and requirements regarding Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen’s participation in both the national and international competitions were conducted in full compliance with legal regulations, ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the process.
The organization expressed sincere apologies for the confusion caused by this mistake and appealed for understanding from the public, the press, and media outlets. Miss Universe Vietnam also called on fans to continue supporting Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen on her journey to represent the nation at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico.
