The three largest mobile phone operators in Vietnam, namely VinaPhone, Viettel, and MobiFone, will officially allow their subscribers to switch provider without changing their number from November 16, in accordance with the Circular No.35/2017 issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
All the above operators stated that they are technically ready for this switch. However, they are still waiting for formal detailed guidance regarding fees of the number storage, registration, service provision procedure, and number maintaining.
At the moment, the suggested fee is VND60,000 (approx. $2.57) per turn.
As said by the Circular No.35/2017, mobile and telecommunication service providers have to set a common fee as well as related conditions for the task of keeping phone number while changing provider, and then publish this.
The charge of switching operators is calculated based on the principle of covering necessary expenses of both in and out providers, of the support center for network development in cooperating to deliver this service.
In addition, when carrying out the task of maintaining number while switching provider, concerning operators must ensure that there is no new charge on any value added services or telecommunication apps from the time of termination with the old provider.
