On the afternoon of Sept. 9, local time, a special aircraft carrying National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation landed at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife are beginning an official visit to Mongolia at the invitation of Mongolian Parliament Chairman Sandag Byambatsogt and his wife.

According to the National Assembly’s official portal, the Mongolian delegation welcoming them at the airport included J. Bayarmaa, Chairwoman of the Mongolia-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group; Ganbaatar Hulan, Mongolian Ambassador to Vietnam; and officials from the State Great Khural Office and Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Representing Vietnam were Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Nguyen Tuan Thanh and officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Mongolia.

Two young Mongolian women presented Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife with Khadag ceremonial scarves and invited them to taste Aaruul, a traditional dried dairy product, as part of Mongolia’s customary welcome for honored guests.

The visit by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man comes as the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia continues to develop positively, particularly after the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership in September 2024, opening a new framework for deeper, more substantive and effective cooperation.

The visit is expected to inject fresh momentum into Vietnam-Mongolia relations, making bilateral and multilateral cooperation more substantive and effective, particularly in parliamentary ties. It is also expected to create new drivers for relations between the two countries and deliver tangible benefits to their peoples.

After 70 years of diplomatic relations, and particularly following the 2024 state visit to Mongolia by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, Vietnam-Mongolia relations have entered a highly positive stage of development, with increasingly clear and substantive progress.

There remains considerable room for cooperation between Vietnam and Mongolia, spanning mining, education and training, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, as well as emerging areas with significant potential, notably renewable energy development in Mongolia.

Economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has also recorded positive progress in recent years. Bilateral trade exceeded $155 million in 2025, with Vietnamese exports accounting for more than $100 million. Several Vietnamese businesses have been implementing large-scale energy investment projects in Mongolia.

Cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures has been maintained and steadily strengthened. Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s visit provides an opportunity for the two legislative bodies to further expand exchanges and share experience in lawmaking and national governance, while strengthening the role of their parliaments in overseeing and advancing the implementation of high-level agreements and translating commitments into concrete programs and projects.
