Newly elected National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man takes the oath of office in Hanoi on May 20.

The newly-elected National Assembly Chairman vowed to be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the people, and to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, striving to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, at a solemn swearing-in ceremony in Hanoi on May 20.

In his speech, he thanked the National Assembly deputies for trusting and electing him Chairman of the legislature, saying “this is a great honour but also a great responsibility”.

He pledged to do his utmost to promote the good traditions and achievements of the National Assembly through the ages, and continue to improve the quality and efficiency of the legislature’s operations, for the ultimate goal of serving the interests of the nation and people, and for the happiness of the people.

Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man was elected head of the current 15th legislature to succeed Vuong Dinh Hue who stepped down in early May. All 475 deputies attending the ongoing session of the National Assembly supported Man’s new post. The election was done in secret ballot.

Mr. Man was born in 1962 in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang. He earned a PhD degree in Economics and a Bachelor degree in Politics.

He held several key positions, including head of the Can Tho city administration, secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee and president of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee before being elected Vice Chairman of the National Assembly in 2021.

He is currently a Politburo member and a member of the Party Central Committee.
